Apophyllite is derived from the Greek word apophyllízo  which means ‘it flakes off’,

This is in reference to this stone is very brittle and fragile and its tendency to flake and fall apart when heated, due to water loss.

This stone can be found in India. Germany, Canada, Norway, Scotland, Ireland, Japan and Brazil.

Its most commonly found with white colouration with rare variants being green, yellow, pink or violet.
